Luis Graham Castillo - OTHER COUNTRY ROADS - Making contemporary art in Dominican Republic
The talk focuses on current Dominican artistic practices and conditions, examining the institutionalized vision from its statements, the production of meaning and the control of flows as we trace the underlying conditions of this construction and reflect on the changing thoughts of art in that geographical context embodied within the cartography of its visualities. It aims to point out routes and identifies potentialities in the voices that articulate aesthetic thinking and activate relevant conversations.
Luis Graham Castillo, Dominican Republic
Communicator, cultural manager and curator of Dominican contemporary art. His practice in cultural and curatorial management seeks to create spaces of conversation and to make visible counter hegemonic ways of addressing subjectivities. He has produced curatorial and cultural projects for various institutions, such as the Network of Cultural Centers of Spain, Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center, Casa Who, MECA Art Fair (PR), ARTEBA (Buenos Aires) and other spaces. His publications appear in media such as Terremoto (Mexico), La Buchaca de TeoR/éTica (Costa Rica) and Artishock. Currently, he resides and works in Santo Domingo, where he concludes a Certification in Afro-Latin American Studies (Harvard), is a teacher at the Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón and maintains an independent curatorial practice.

La charla se centra en prácticas y condiciones artísticas dominicanas actuales, examinando la visión institucionalizada a partir de sus enunciados, la producción de significado y el control de flujos a medida que trazamos las condiciones subyacentes de esta construcción y reflexionar sobre los pensamientos cambiantes del arte en ese contexto geográfico plasmados dentro de la cartografía de sus visualidades. Se propone señalar rutas e identifica potencialidades en las voces que articulan el pensamiento estético y activan las conversaciones pertinentes.

Es comunicador, gestor cultural y curador de arte contemporáneo dominicano. Su práctica en la gestión cultural y lo curatorial busca crear espacios de conversación y visibilizar maneras contrahegemónicas de abordar subjetividades. Ha producido proyectos curatoriales y culturales para diversas instituciones, como la Red de Centros Culturales de España, Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes, Casa Quién, MECA Art Fair (PR), ARTEBA (Buenos Aires) y otros espacios. Sus publicaciones aparecen en medios como Terremoto (México), La Buchaca de TeoR/éTica (Costa Rica) y Artishock. Actualmente, reside y trabaja en Santo Domingo, donde es docente en la Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón y mantiene un ejercicio curatorial independiente.
