Harumi Abe
“once, under this sky”
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 4, 2026 | 6:00 – 9:00 PM
On view: April 4 – May 16, 2026
In this series, Harumi Abe layers landscapes from Japan and Florida with subtle traces of galaxies, dissolving the boundary between earth and cosmos. The works are inspired by ichi-go ichi-e—the understanding that each encounter happens only once. They reflect shifting terrain, fleeting light, and the impermanence of place.
What appears solid is quietly in motion. We are only here under the same sky. Through layered surfaces and spatial depth, the paintings invite a pause—to recognize the fragile, singular moment of being here, once, under this sky.
Harumi Abe is a Japanese-born artist whose landscape paintings explore identity, home, time, and the sublime. Raised in Tokorozawa, Japan, she has lived in South Florida for over two decades, drawing inspiration from both her birthplace and her adopted ecosystems.
Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at Saladrigas Gallery in Miami, Terzo Piano in Washington, D.C., the Walgreen Windows Project by Oolite Arts, and the AIRIE Nest Gallery in Everglades National Park. Her paintings are in notable collections including the de la Cruz Collection, the Girls’ Club Collection, and the Liza and Arturo Mosquera Collection.
A two-time South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant recipient and 2022 Sustainable Arts Foundation Awardee, Abe has completed residencies at Oolite Arts, Vermont Studio Center, the Everglades, and Dickinson House in Belgium. She currently works from studios in Miami and Hollywood.
